Title: Youth Summer Operations Intern Location: Hybrid, in-person during NYSA Program Start date: May 11, 2026 Duration: August 21, 2026 Position Reports to: Youth Operations Coordinator Details: May 11, 2026 – August 21, 2026, expected to be in person for specific program dates: Training: June 29 – July 3, 2026, 9:00am – 5:00pm NYSA Program: July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026 Monday-Thursday 8:30 am – 3:00 pm (Minimum 15 hours per week, preference to candidate seeking more hours SCOPE OF WORK: The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. Since 1999, the IRC has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to support the positive development of refugee youth and their communities in New York City. The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy is a six-week program focusing on preparing newly arrived youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 135 students ages 5 – 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and social emotional learning classes. Community events are held on Wednesdays. Field Trips are held on Fridays. The NYSA Operations Intern will assist the Youth Operations Team to ensure that all relevant student data, records, and paperwork are organized and up to date for the NYSA Summer Program. Additionally, the Operations intern will create weekly Family Newsletters and assist with the preparation for Community Events and field trips.

Requirements

  • Based in US, must be a US citizen or have US work authorization
  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years
  • Undergraduate level student/graduate in Business, Social Work, Education or similar field preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred
  • Organized, reliable, and flexible
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Competency with Google and Microsoft Office applications
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required. Second language proficiency in relevant language highly desirable (including Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Haitian Creole, French, Pashto, Fulani, Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Mandarin)

Responsibilities

  • Outreach to families to collect required paperwork and information
  • Track and organize paperwork to support data management
  • Assist in updating and maintaining accurate records in our data systems.
  • Input student attendance and project enrollment into the excel tracker
  • Create weekly family newsletters, and translate in multiple languages using interpretation services
  • Inventory and organize supplies
  • Assist in preparation and set up for weekly community events and field trips
  • Assist in distribution of DOE meals, in compliance with NYC DOE regulations
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
