About The Position

This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for certifying potential low risk participants to the program and for providing nutrition education and breastfeeding education.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain height and weight measurements using standard equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, dietary and clinical data.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the current science and practice of nutrition and dietetics.
  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of the nutritional needs of WIC clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in one or more languages.
  • Ability to develop and apply educational/training techniques to learning.
  • Knowledge of acceptable methods of record documentation/SOAP.
  • Knowledge of local DOH programs, services, and community agencies.
  • Knowledge of Florida WiSE data system.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical skills.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of DOH and WIC program policies and procedures.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Word, Google Chrome.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with specific major in dietetics, food and nutrition or food service management.
  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with DHM 150-24.
  • Provides culturally relevant nutrition education on an individual basis in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition.
  • Evaluates program eligibility status of each client to ensure that a valid issuance of electronic benefits can be performed.
  • Prepares employee activity reports of time and services provided and summarizes nutrition services and activities at biweekly intervals.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and other professional and staff development activities.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or as required.
