About The Position

San Diego Humane Society is hiring Seasonal Per Required Needed (PRN) Nursery Caregivers for our Nursery team! How you’ll impact our mission: At San Diego Humane Society, we’re united by our mission to Inspire Compassion. Nursery Caregivers provide daily care, medical support and enrichment for nursery animals and provide support for the foster program. In this role, you’ll provide care for animals 0-8 weeks of age, as well as queens with kittens up to 8 weeks of age. This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections. Requirements

  • Highschool graduate or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, veterinary hospital, or volunteer environment strongly preferred.
  • Based at our San Diego Campus.
  • These positions work approximately 4 hours per week and will last from approximately March – November 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily cleaning and feeding routines, maintaining assigned area in a clean, organized and professional manner, as scheduled and in compliance of SDHS kitten nursery policy and procedures and underage kitten protocol
  • Monitor the health of shelter animals; follow established procedures if symptoms of illness arise based on the degree of illness or injury
  • Administer subcutaneous fluids and oral medications
  • Will assist as needed to restrain animals for blood draw and examination
  • Handle and nurture animals appropriately according to age and needs of the animal
