UPMC Nursing is seeking a Nurse Scientist who is passionate about advancing evidence-based practice and translating research into real-world impact. In this role, you’ll partner with clinical leaders, mentor nurses in inquiry, and help drive innovations that improve outcomes for patients and elevate nursing practice across our organization. Requirements

  • A PhD or doctoral degree in nursing is required.
  • BSN required.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive nursing education OR leadership experience.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Experience in developing nursing research for clinical practice, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and dissemination of results at regional, national, and/or international meetings.
  • Proven track record for obtaining and managing external grant funding to support nursing research and quality improvement.
  • Ability to analyze clinical data to identify trends, inform practice changes, and measure the effectiveness of EBP initiatives.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) PA License, CITI Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for nursing research and EBP initiatives across the health system.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and inquiry within nursing practice.
  • Oversee the conduct of nursing evidence-based practice and research throughout the system.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based practice approaches to patient care to improve patient and employee experiences.
  • Develop and mentor nurses and nurse leaders to support clinical inquiry.
  • Establish a standardized education structure to support nurses in evidence-based practice and research.
  • Develop workflows and processes to meet program needs, Magnet, Pathways, Patient Experience, and Nursing Excellence? Chair the system Evidence-Based Nursing Council
  • Conduct individual or group mentoring sessions to support research or evidence-based project development from inception to dissemination.? Disseminate findings of nursing research and EBP projects through peer-reviewed journals and professional meetings.? Lead and support efforts to obtain funding through grants and partnerships.? Evaluate outcome measures and metrics to measure effectiveness of nursing EBP and Research
  • Partner with UPMC PtExp/Nursing Excellence Specialists for alignment and support of the goals of maintaining or achieving individual UPMC hospitals ANCC Magnet and/or Pathways to Excellence designations
  • Conducts analysis of clinical variance trends and directs programmatic activities which are congruent to and assists in achieving organization operational imperatives and facilitates clinical nursing practice changes.
  • Collaborates with UPMC nursing and quality leadership to support quality priorities, recommend, and implement operational improvements and implement patient safety initiatives.
  • Align and support Nursing across UPMC to support in professional organizations to enhance personal growth and facilitate collaborate relationships at a regional, national, and international level.
  • Design and oversee educational programs that promote EBP competencies among nursing staff, including workshops, seminars, and mentorship opportunities
