About The Position

The CSU Nurse functions within the framework of the objectives, missions, and values of RiverValley Behavioral Health. Under limited supervision the CSU Nurse plans and administers the twenty four hour a day, seven day a week, nursing services provided to the unit. They assume staff authority over line staff with reference to nursing care issues. They teach both clients and staff about medication issues, develop nursing care protocols, and monitor medication administration. They coordinate care with the psychiatrist including taking orders and assuring insurance/ Medicaid/Medicare pre-approvals for treatment.

Requirements

  • BS/RN
  • Or
  • RN (KY License)
  • And
  • Three (3) years’ of psychiatric experience or BS/RN

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.

  • Monitors staff performance and reports on same with reference to medical/ nursing care.
  • Provides active leadership to staff in meeting standards of care through:
  • Consistent monitoring,
  • Completion of daily reports with members of the provider staff to ensure adequate and timely communication; Completion of assigned QE audits, and Monitoring assigned internships for Graduate nurses.
  • Manages and monitors the environment of care to include:
  • Monitoring the pharmaceutical stock to ensure accurate controlled drug management and timely pharmacy delivery of medications,
  • Working with the Infection Control Nurse during quarterly inspections of the unit to ensure problems are identified and departments are notified on a timely basis to remediate same,
  • Assessing clients for acute and chronic health needs and referring to outside health agencies for care as needed,
  • Checking first aid kit and EDL monthly to verify if supplies are needed and to dispose of and/ or reorder expired medications.
  • On-call for medical advice to staff.
  • Identifies learning needs of staff members and clients and provides training as needed.
  • Communicates client needs to psychiatrist and other physicians as required for the purpose of coordinating efforts focusing on meeting patient needs while providing input to treatment team on patients medical need and its impact on CSU treatment plan.
  • Fosters collaborative working relationships among members of the leadership and management teams and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
