About The Position

The Nurse Resident (Newly Licensed Registered Nurse - NLRN) provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients with a scientific and humanistic focus. The NLRN utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety across physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental, and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age-specific, and directed toward optimal wellness. This role is for nurses in their first year of nursing practice and transitions to a Staff Registered Nurse role after the one-year anniversary of their hire date. NLRNs are not permitted to cover units for lunches or breaks or serve as a shift/charge nurse until their orientation period is complete. Registered nurses with less than one year's experience must enter practice at a Guthrie Hospital through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
Must have passed the state board examination by the State Board of Nursing in their state of practice before beginning employment.
NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a non ‐Nursing Bachelor’s Degree must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four (4) years from their date of hire.
Must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination, as outlined by the hospital within the orientation period.
Must maintain CPR certification.
Registered nurses with less than one year’s experience must be hired through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities
