About The Position

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant for Duke Orthopedics of Raleigh located at the Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician and additional Advanced Practice Providers (APP) for patients requiring Hand and Upper Extremity as well as general orthopedic care. The APP will augment a physician’s ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic as well as first assist in the operating room and hospitalized patient rounding. Surgeries are performed at Duke Raleigh Hospital and Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon locations. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:  Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • BLS required
  • Nurse Practitioners:  Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants:  Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Orthopedics work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant especially first assist in the OR. If a new graduate, Orthopedics clinical rotations during your education program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients needing Hand and Upper Extremity as well as general orthopedic care by assisting the physician in clinic as well as responsible and accountable for independent patient load/clinic.
  • Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
