About The Position

Hartford Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England, known for providing cutting-edge treatment, including the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI). The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide pre-admission testing for surgical patients at Hartford Hospital and its satellite locations in the Hartford Region. This role involves coordinating preoperative care, including history and physicals (H&P’s) and all required patient testing prior to procedures. The APP will also consult with collaborating providers and specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes, perform accurate preoperative physical exams, and order and interpret diagnostic tests. Additionally, the APP will participate in system-wide councils to standardize care across Pre-Admission Centers and drive initiatives to improve surgical outcomes, reduce readmissions, increase patient and provider satisfaction, and build relationships within the community and hospital.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Master’s program
  • Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Connecticut
  • Board Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Acute Care or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), or certification as Physician Assistant
  • A minimum of 1 year practicing clinically in-person as an advanced practitioner is required

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-admission testing for surgical patients at Hartford Hospital and satellite locations in the Hartford Region
  • Coordinate preoperative care including history and physical (H&P’s), and all required patient testing prior to procedures
  • Consult with collaborating providers and specialists, when necessary, to achieve the best possible patient outcome
  • Perform / complete accurate preoperative physical exams in accordance with established licensure and certification
  • Selectively order and interpret appropriate laboratory studies, X-rays, EKGs and other diagnostic tests and procedures
  • Participate in system-wide councils to standardize care provided by the Pre-Admission Center(s) across the system
  • Drive initiatives to improve surgical outcomes; reduce preventable readmissions, increase patient and provider satisfaction, improve patient outcomes, build relationships with community and hospital providers and increase revenue to the organization
