About The Position

Crane County Hospital is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Nurse Educator & Infection Control Nurse to join our team. The Nurse Educator & Infection Control Nurse is responsible for developing and implementing clinical education programs while overseeing the hospital’s infection prevention and control program. This role ensures staff competency, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. The position also provides direct patient care as needed to support nursing operations.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Texas.
  • Basic Infection Control Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Current TNCC and CEN certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor certifications or ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years in clinical nursing.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver educational programs and infection control initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills for data management and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based infection control practices, quality improvement methodologies, and adult learning principles.
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and lead staff education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR systems and learning management platforms.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Comply with organizational policies regarding ethics, confidentiality, safety, and compliance.
  • Works effectively with staff, administration, and patients.
  • Reports to work on time and completes assignments within designated timeframe.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful conditions.
  • Promotes a caring, professional environment.
  • Attend mandatory training, staff meetings, and maintain required certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • CIC (Certification in Infection Control) preferred.
  • Experience in infection control, quality management, or utilization review preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs for clinical staff, including orientation and ongoing competency.
  • Develop individualized education plans for new hires and oversee preceptor programs.
  • Provide training on evidence-based practices and specialty care needs.
  • Manage training assignments and compliance through learning platforms.
  • Mentor and support staff, preceptors, and students.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify training needs and address skill gaps.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the infection prevention and control program.
  • Conduct surveillance, audits, and monitoring to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Educate staff on infection prevention practices, including PPE, hand hygiene, and sterilization.
  • Analyze infection data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulatory agencies (e.g., CMS, NHSN).
  • Investigate infection-related incidents and lead root cause analyses.
  • Support survey readiness and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, including assessments, treatments, and education.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model for nursing staff.
  • Assist with procedures and perform technical nursing duties within scope of practice.
  • Document patient care accurately and in accordance with standards.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Assist with policy development and implementation.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient safety and care quality.
  • Maintain a professional, positive demeanor with patients, families, and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold organizational standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support hospital operations.
