Northwoods Module Leader

The Nature ConservancyEly, MN
5d$27 - $30

About The Position

As our Northwoods Module Leader, you will oversee a module (two Module Members) focused on prescribed fire and related stewardship activities. You will work routinely in close coordination with local USFS partners while being supervised by the Assistant Fire Manager. You will participate in preparing fire lines, timber stand improvement felling, building and burning piles, maintaining equipment, implementing prescribed burns, post-burn monitoring, training delivery, and other tasks. You may perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire and are expected to travel out of state from time to time on prescribed fire details. As part of the BCM’s ongoing professional development, you will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire qualifications. In addition, you shall work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This will include participation in Firewise and Fire Adapted Community activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and Tribes. You should have the ability to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and uneven terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Housing is provided, but not required as part of the position. If TNC provided housing is elected, the value of the housing will be included as taxable income vs paid rent. As our Northwoods Module Leader, you will serve as both a capable leader and a reliable partner. You will supervise module members in the field and collaborate regularly with US Forest Service partners to identify and sequence module activities. The Northwoods landscape is a complex of hemi-boreal, fire-dependent forests near the international border, featuring nearly countless lakes and wetlands that are administered as wilderness, national and state forest lands, along with several Tribal Reservations. An engaged local conservation community is already present, and as an effective Module Leader, you will be able to interpret the Module’s work effectively to continue building community awareness and support. Are you ready to lead in prescribed fire activities and preserve our natural landscapes? Join us as the Northwoods Module Leader! Apply now and make a positive impact with us!
