About The Position

Camp Northwoods Counselors are responsible for working as a team in supervising groups of up to 28 children entering grades 1 – 8, and assisting the Camp Director and Assistant Director in the day-to-day operations of the camp and weekly field trips to recreational and historical sites. Counselors lead activities in arts and crafts, hiking, games, etc. and help supervise instruction given by others in swimming, ceramics, etc. Counselors shall be certified in Red Cross Response to Emergency Training, or CPR and First Aid; this training is provided by Skidmore College before camp begins. This position will offer successful candidates a unique opportunity to serve as part of a team and gain the relevant knowledge, skills, and experience of working in a quality day camp for children. This is a temporary, full-time position from June 22 - August 14, 2026. Counselors must be at least 16 years old, mature and responsible individuals that are creative, fun, energetic, and team-oriented. Experience in a camp setting or working with young children preferred; excellent references required. Candidates possessing or pursuing education in Early Childhood Education will be strongly considered. Employment is contingent upon the acceptable results of a pre-employment background check. Sixteen and seventeen-year-olds will be required to submit a New York State Employment Certificate (also called working papers) obtained from their school’s guidance office.
