About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. The primary purpose of the Literacy Facilitator position is to provide statewide Lexia- Voyager Sopris Learning Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) professional development aligned to the Read to Achieve Act. Furthermore, this position will serve as the communication link between NCDPI Office of Early Learning Regional Consultants to increase aligned educator professional knowledge with the intent to establish a cohesive, sustainable Science of Reading implementation model across NC. This position is Home Based/Regional and follows a regular work schedule; Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. There may be some overnight visits to local education agencies or days that require extra hours in the morning or in the evening to attend meetings or meet with school personnel. Some work will require virtual participation for information and training.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, and policies related to Read to Achieve and Early Education within the Preschool – Grade 5 continuum.
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed literacy practices aligned to the Science of Reading.
  • Leadership skills at the regional/district level supporting literacy instruction, literacy development, data analytics, and/or adult learning/coaching.
  • Master’s degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Implementation (Including Professional Development, Technical Assistance and Systems-Level Coaching).
  • Support all aspects of the development and the state-wide implementation of the state’s efforts to support aligned, evidence-informed practices in Preschool through Grade 5.
  • Coordinate, align, and support the application and professional development of the Read to Achieve Act.
  • Work with regional and district systems and structures, to build statewide capacity for successful scale-up and sustainability of early education initiatives aligned with Read to Achieve.
  • Collaborate with NCDPI OEL Early Education Consultants to align LETRS/literacy PD and implementation at the region/district level.
  • Serve as a communication link between NCDPI Office of Early Learning and participants related to LETRS and its impact on educators.
  • Valid Driver's License Required.
