About The Position

Responsible for performing comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general supervision of the Sleep Lab Coordinator and/or the Sleep Center Medical Director or designee. A Non-Registered Polysomnography Technician can provide guidance to a polysomnographic clinical student.

Requirements

  • Polysomnography Technician, Medical Assistant, RN, LPN, Respiratory Therapist, or EEG technician experience is required.
  • Must have obtained and maintain Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
  • Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
  • The position does not require an employee to be registered by American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) or other accepted certification body by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). If the employee is not registered, one of the criteria listed below must be met: a)Be enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP Online Self Study Modules. Non-registered technicians must complete the A-STEP Online Self Study Module within two years of enrollment. b)Be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Sleep Disorder Laboratory is preferred.
  • Pediatric sleep laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • Membership in the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST), preferred.
  • Experience with sleep study software is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general supervision of the Sleep Lab Coordinator and/or the Sleep Center Medical Director or designee.
  • Performs routine and intermediate level polysomnograms in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Display pattern recognition abilities which extend to evaluating the normal and abnormal patterns common to each physiologic parameter, as well as assessment of various sleep stages, possible effects from medications, age related changes, and patterns which are specific to the parameter evaluated.
  • Provide accurate, complete, timely documentation for each procedure performed and maintain necessary records.
  • Practices proper care, usage, and maintenance of polysomnography equipment.
  • Provides training and guidance to Pediatric Sleep staff.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
  • Other duties as required.
