About The Position

To assist in the implementation of the speech and language program and to assist in the achievement of appropriate speech and language goals that will contribute to the development of students to their maximum potential as mature, able, and responsible adults.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university, or have a passing score on the Praxis Para Professional examination.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers;
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook);
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service; and
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Responsibilities

  • Implements the academic program under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist and school-site personnel; operates audio-visual equipment; uses a variety of learning materials. Evaluates progress cooperatively with the Speech Language Pathologist;
  • Assists the Speech-Language Pathologist with required clerical/record keeping duties and classroom maintenance;
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills;
  • Assists the Speech-Language Pathologist in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities;
  • Alerts the Speech-Language Pathologist to any problem or special information about an individual student;
  • Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties;
  • Assists in arranging room, materials, and data walls;
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes;
  • When requested, serves as a resource person to the teachers of students with disabilities;
  • Assists, as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist, in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an inclusive setting, as determined by the IEP Team(s);
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community;
  • Participates in in-service meetings, as assigned;
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures; and
  • Performs other duties as required.
