About The Position

The National Offshore Wind Institute (NOWI) at Bristol Community College supports the evolving needs of the energy, offshore wind sector. Non-credit CTE instructors for the NOWI are responsible for delivering trainings in energy, and offshore and onshore wind, and maritime safety. NOWI is seeking instructors experienced and trained in GWO credentials including Basic Safety Training (BST) which includes First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Sea Survival and Working at Heights to teach students and corporate trainees. In addition, NOWI is seeking instructors experienced in construction and clean energy trades. An ideal candidate has a background in instruction, maintains a growth mindset, is a skilled communicator, and is adept at supporting a diverse population of learners. Courses will be primarily delivered face-to-face but could be offered through other modalities such as online or hybrid. Courses are typically held during weekday business hours from 8:00 AM - 5:00PM and may have occasional customized trainings that will be offered at other times such as in the evening and on weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in technical training environments (e.g., trades, offshore wind, welding, maritime, HVAC).
  • Additional OSHA Credentials preferred including: OSHA Confined Space Entry or National Fire Protection Association, OSHA Fall Protection, OSHA Electrical Safety, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER), OSHA Fire Safety or Fire Watch training, American Welding Society (AWS) or OSHA welding safety training.
  • Additional industry recognized credentials are preferred such as NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification, Heavy Equipment Operator (Forklift, Crane/Hoist, Scissor Lift), and Scaffolding
  • Must be comfortable working in confined space(s), at height, and in an aquatic environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills, with an ability to use technology as a mode of presentation.
  • Must be able to instruct, possessing strong communication, presentation, technical, and public speaking skills to train audiences with the ability to communicate technical and complex information in an engaging manner.
  • Experience presenting or conducting workshops, trainings, or classes.
  • Ability to use different methods to present including presentation software,
  • May be required to work occasional nights and/or weekends as business needs dictate.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience as an instructor or training manager.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety trainings including basic OSHA compliance.
  • Certifications or licenses relative to the specified area of content, if applicable.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English

Responsibilities

  • Instruct participants in classroom and practical situations that lead to a certification or course completion in the trainings (such as but not limited to GWO First Aid, GWO Fire Awareness, GWO Manual Handling, GWO Sea Survival and GWO Working at Heights).
  • Work with the Director, Assistant Director, and Operations Specialist to ensure all relevant classroom courses materials are prepared and available for the training course.
  • Ensure all equipment and materials for practical exercises are maintained and in good condition in adherence with relevant course standards.
  • Participate in continued professional development to ensure qualifications and competencies are maintained and up to date.
  • Coordinate the preparation, including course materials and logistics as well as training tracking, feedback, and evaluation with the Assistant Director.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities based on feedback on trainings, materials and equipment related to the training portfolio.
  • Provide continuous feedback on trainings, materials and equipment related to the training portfolio to the Assistant Director.
  • Provide feedback to students/trainees and corporate clients to support ongoing professional development and identifying future business needs.
  • Act as an ambassador in supporting the NOWI and securing new partnerships/clients for the training center.
  • Ensure compliance with Bristol Community College policies and requirements.
  • Complete the College's Human Resource required trainings such as, but not limited to Title IX, FERPA, and Information Security.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
