About The Position

The NextGen System Administrator is a critical technical role supporting the implementation, stabilization, and ongoing operation of the NextGen Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform. This position is responsible for system configuration, performance monitoring, upgrades, integrations, and day-to-day operational support. The System Administrator ensures the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of NextGen across all service lines while supporting clinical, operational, and revenue cycle workflows. This role partners closely with IT and HealthCare Software Team infrastructure, clinical informatics, vendors, and operational stakeholders during implementation and ongoing optimization

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of healthcare IT/EHR experience, including template or form creation.
  • Strong understanding of EHR security models, user access provisioning, and audit logging.
  • Experience with system upgrades, patches, and vendor coordination.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and documentation compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 3 years of hands-on NextGen EHR system administration experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL, interfaces, HL7, and system integrations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator for the NextGen EHR environment, including Production, Test, and Training instances.
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor NextGen system settings, system preferences, and environment parameters.
  • Manage user, roles, permissions, and security groups in accordance with least-privilege and compliance requirements.
  • Administer interfaces, integrations, and data feeds between NextGen and external systems.
  • Coordinate NextGen upgrades, patches, hotfixes, and version releases, including pre- and post-upgrade validation.
  • Monitor system performance, job queues, audits, and logs to ensure stability and availability.
  • Perform system troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution in coordination with NextGen vendor support.
  • Support implementation activities including environment setup, data conversion validation, testing, and go-live readiness.
  • Develop and maintain system administration documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, billing, Healthcare Software and IT teams to support workflow optimization and system enhancements.
  • Ensure system configurations align with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Support business continuity, disaster recovery testing, and downtime procedures for NextGen.
  • Maintain audit trails, access reviews, and security controls to support HIPAA and HITECH compliance.
  • Support system testing, validation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Track and manage system-related incidents, service requests, and enhancement tickets.
  • Proactively identify risks, performance issues, and opportunities for system improvement.
  • Assist with reporting infrastructure, background jobs, and system-level dependencies.
  • Coordinate with database administrators, infrastructure teams, and hosting vendors as applicable.
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours support for system maintenance, upgrades, or critical incidents as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to application analysts and support staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
