For 30 years, the Rose Foundation has supported grassroots initiatives that inspire community action to protect the environment, community health, and people’s rights. Our community-based grantmaking approach has earned national recognition for building grassroots power for conservation and social justice causes, and our New Voices Are Rising (NVR) youth leadership and environmental stewardship program works to uplift and prioritize youth leadership in BIPOC communities that have been most impacted by social and environmental injustice. The NVR Program Associate will support the planning, coordination, and execution of public information sharing and air-quality monitoring activities for youth through the Rose Foundation’s New Voices Are Rising program’s work with the Port of Oakland under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Ports Program. In 2025, the Rose Foundation became a $3.1M sub-awardee of the Port of Oakland as part of the Port’s efforts to electrify port infrastructure and reach zero-emissions operations goals. This individual will lead all Clean Ports public information activities, including event and curriculum planning, outreach strategy design and implementation, community presentations, and more. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in curriculum planning, event planning and facilitation, and outreach to youth in communities surrounding the Port of Oakland. They will report to the NVR Associate Program Director. The Rose Foundation values a diverse team whose lived experiences inform their relationship to social justice and community equity work. We encourage BIPOC folks to apply, as well as candidates who identify as women, femme, non-binary, or LGBTQ+. We encourage candidates who are comfortable conversing in Spanish, or another language commonly spoken in California communities of color, to apply.
