About The Position

It is also the primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and a founding partner of Boston HealthNet. This New Graduate RN Residency program, specifically for the Surgical Step Down (IMCU) Department, is designed to assist newly licensed nurses in their transition to practice. The program, starting September 9, 2026, incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies and aims to reduce turnover, improve critical thinking, clinical decision-making skills, patient outcomes, and nurse satisfaction. New graduate nurses are hired in cohorts, undergo a four-month training period, and then assume a position on a Step Down unit, with a requested two-year commitment following the residency.

Requirements

  • Graduated from nursing school within the twelve (12) months before their date of hire.
  • Active BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers.
  • Flu Vaccination required prior to start.
  • Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing (preferred prior to start date).
  • Vaccinated against COVID-19 and receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Commitment to a two-year employment after the training period.

Responsibilities

  • Encompass nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum.
  • Be accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.
