About The Position

The Networks & Export Engineer SME is responsible for designing, evaluating, and managing secure network solutions and ensuring compliance with export control regulations within Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This role combines technical expertise in secure communications networks with a deep understanding of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and other export laws. The SME applies advanced engineering principles to develop solutions that support global operations while safeguarding classified data and ensuring compliance with international trade agreements. Due to the sensitivity of the systems and technologies involved, candidates must possess an active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

Requirements

  • Expertise in network design, security, and global communications protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Deep knowledge of ITAR, EAR, FMS programs, and other export compliance regulations relevant to DoD operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate technical risks and identify compliant solutions for export-controlled technologies.
  • Proficiency in encryption protocols, cross-domain solutions, and zero-trust network architectures.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills for interfacing with technical teams, contractors, and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage complex tasks with tight deadlines in classified and dynamic environments.
  • Security Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent military or professional experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in network engineering, cybersecurity, or export compliance roles, preferably in DoD environments.
  • Proven track record of designing secure, large-scale networks and advising on export-controlled technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certifications include CISSP, CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), Certified Export Specialist (CES), or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Splunk, SolarWinds, Guard solutions, and SIEM platforms is desirable.
