About The Position

A Network Engineer, Senior is responsible for the ongoing design, maintenance, and support of all aspects of NJM’s Network Infrastructure. A Network Engineer Senior will lead efforts with other members of the IT infrastructure and operations teams to deliver and maintain reliable network services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Information Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining a mid-size enterprise network infrastructure
  • Self-starter that can work independently or as part of a team
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as CCNA / CCNP or Network+ are considered a plus

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN and Data Center Infrastructure Components
  • Support Wireless Network Infrastructure
  • Create reusable configuration templates to standardize the deployment of network devices and features
  • Maintain disaster recovery network infrastructure and participate in annual DR Exercise
  • Evaluates published security advisories and remediate security vulnerabilities consistent with NJM Patch Management Program
  • Perform network device OS upgrades and system patching to maintain appropriate security, vendor support, and feature sets
  • Monitor ticketing queues and respond to outstanding requests and other assigned work orders
  • Acts as primary technical resource on system implementation projects
  • Generate usage, availability, and performance reports for management consumption
  • Generate and analyze usage reports for capacity planning
  • Availability and health monitoring for network infrastructure components
  • Maintain network monitoring tools to optimize monitoring capabilities
  • Act as an escalation point for Service Desk and other level 1 support groups to troubleshoot network related issues.
  • Provide 24x7 off hours support as a part of a rotating on call schedule to respond to fault alarm and escalation from level 1 support teams
  • Capture and analyze network packet traces to support troubleshooting efforts
  • Interface with third-party support and service vendors when needed to ensure network remains operational at all times
  • Leads and participates in technical PoCs efforts to evaluate network technologies and platforms and make technology recommendations based on results
  • Develop and present network design recommendations based on common network design principles
  • Acts as primary technical contact on network system implementation projects
  • Develop implement and configuration templates to help standardize network device configurations
  • Create artifacts such as network design documents and Visio diagrams
  • Understand Cloud Networking Concepts
