About The Position

Solarus is a community-owned broadband provider delivering Internet, TV, and telephone services throughout central Wisconsin. Our Network Services team designs, builds, and supports the infrastructure that makes those services possible. We are looking for a Network Administrator who wants to take ownership of real infrastructure that serves real people. This is a hands-on role where you will lead network changes, troubleshoot complex issues, plan and execute migrations, and help shape how our network evolves. Our team works across multiple domains, and we invest in our people through training, certifications, and hands-on project work.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Networking, IT, or Computer Science with 3+ years of relevant experience OR 5+ years of hands-on networking or telecom experience
  • Solid working knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, and routing concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve network issues in a production environment
  • Able to create clear technical documentation such as procedures, diagrams, and change records
  • You follow problems through to resolution, communicate proactively, and take responsibility for your work

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIP, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar
  • Experience with dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) in multi-site environments
  • Firewall and security experience (any major vendor platform)
  • Voice or VoIP system experience
  • Wireless design or deployment experience
  • Experience with automation tools (Python, Ansible) or monitoring platforms
  • Experience leading migrations, upgrades, or other high-impact network changes
  • Telecom, ISP, or service provider background

Responsibilities

  • support and improve Solarus network infrastructure across a range of technology areas
  • leading production changes
  • configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and other network equipment
  • managing core services like DNS and DHCP
  • executing migrations from planning through validation
  • work with voice and VoIP platforms, business wireless solutions, and enterprise firewalls
  • serve as an escalation point for other team members
  • mentor junior staff
  • create and maintain quality documentation
  • collaborate across departments including field operations, central office, and customer-facing teams
  • identify problems, propose solutions, and follow through until the work is done right
