About The Position

NEA is accepting applications for individuals interested in participating as a NEA Counter Disinformation Intern in the NEA Internship Program, Center for Racial and Social Justice, Human and Civil Rights Department, for the Summer 2026 session, which will begin on or after May 4, 2026, and will end on or before August 10, 2026. The internships range from six weeks to a full semester. The NEA Internship Program provides interns with training, learning opportunities, educational activities, and exposure to a variety of rich and substantive programmatic experiences that support quality public education. NEA partners with institutions of higher education, intern programs, and other organizations to identify interns, generally, but not limited to, juniors, seniors, recent college graduates (up to 18 months), or graduate students, who are interested in public education policy and education issues. Students pursuing degrees in Education, Political Science, Government, Human Resources, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Business, Finance, Economics, Management, Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, Mass Media, Graphic Design, Digital Communications, and other disciplines are encouraged to apply. This position supports NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by participating in internship opportunities and assignments in the Center for Racial and Social Justice, Human and Civil Rights Department, of the National Education Association. The focus of the internship will be on advancing racial and social justice issues, with a particular focus on anti-racism resources and curriculum, LGBTQ+ rights, restorative practices, school-to-prison pipeline, voting rights, gender equity, women’s rights, culturally responsive & sustaining education, and immigration advocacy. This internship format may be hybrid, virtual, or on-site at NEA Headquarters.

Requirements

  • Interest in public education policy and education issues
  • Currently a junior, senior, recent college graduate (up to 18 months), or graduate student
  • Pursuing a degree in Education, Political Science, Government, Human Resources, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Business, Finance, Economics, Management, Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, Mass Media, Graphic Design, Digital Communications, or other relevant disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research
  • Data analysis
  • Writing and editing memos and materials
  • Curating disinformation reports
  • Participating in and assisting with partnership events, meetings, and forums
  • Supporting racial and social justice data collection & resource dissemination
  • Conduct research on racial and social justice topics
  • Brainstorm ideas for digital content across NEA’s owned online platforms
  • Research social media and online resources for new issues/trends in racial and social justice advocacy
  • Participate in a variety of meaningful learning experiences, projects, and opportunities
  • Participate in relevant NEA-sponsored and/or approved group activities that may occur at NEA or in the Washington Metropolitan area
  • Participate in interviews with the NEA President and Executive Director, and organizational leadership and staff
  • Observe NEA events such as Representative Assembly events, Board meetings or cross Center/department events
  • Participate in policy forums, organizing or lobbying activities or organized partner or Intern events in the Washington DC Metropolitan area, such as Washington DC Intern Week

Benefits
