NCE Summer Counselor
About The Position
NCE counselors are responsible for supervising and guiding children, ages 5-14, under the direction of their class instructors or coaches with activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and STEM. They are passionate about kids' experiences at camp; organized, flexible and able to problem-solve; calm under pressure; able to keep children emotionally and physically safe; effective communicators with adults, fellow counselors and campers; hard working; and have experience working with children. Counselors are ultimately supervised by the Enrichment or Full Day Sports Camp Director. Requirements
- Experience working with children, preferably in a recreational setting
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Able to receive and implement feedback from NCE staff members
- Positive, collaborative, and flexible
- Ability to commit to full duration of work
- Consistent, reliable and punctual
- Able to maintain attention and a high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time
- Clean CORI/SORI/fingerprint background check
Responsibilities
- Participate in the mandatory NCE summer staff orientation on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and any other planning meetings leading up to camp
- Always ready to create a fun, engaging and safe space for all campers
- Actively support activities of the specific camp (e.g. STEM, sports, visual arts)
- Arrive 15 minutes before the start of camp each day (8:15am) and stay, if needed, for 15 minutes after the day ends (3:45pm)
- Be familiar with NCE Summer Camp handbook; ensure that camp regulations and NCE policies, including protocols for check-in, drop-off, attendance, and lunch processes, are followed
- NCE is a phone free camp. Counselors must model adherence to cell phone rules at all times.
- Timely and appropriate communication of incidents and accidents
- Seek assistance of Summer Enrichment Director, Summer Program Coordinator and/or NCE Central Staff as appropriate
- Oversee respectful use of facilities
