As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you will work on real projects, be part of a collaborative culture, and receive support for growth across two full semesters. NBC News is a leading news organization globally, with award-winning television broadcasts including TODAY, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, and Dateline NBC. The NBC News Digital Group, including streaming services NBC News NOW and TODAY All Day, and its original podcast and audio unit, provide continuous content to consumers. Areas of placement for technology internships include NBC News Digital Creative Design/UX, NBC News Data/Graphics, NBC News Mobile App Development, and NBC News Digital – Software Engineering.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • Must have an active Social Security number to complete I-9 form within 3 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Class standing of junior or above.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong interest in the media and/or technology industry.
  • Previous internship experience or on-campus leadership/projects.
  • Knowledge of HTML, C++, CSS (SASS, PostCSS, LESS), Java, Javascript, rxJava, Adobe Illustrator, D3.js, QGIS, Wireframing, Figma, Sketch, GraphQL, Microsoft PowerBI / Tableau reporting and visualizations (for technical roles).
  • Majors in Digital/New Media Studies, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Journalism, Information Technology, Network Engineer, Mobile Development, Programming, Product Management, Project Management, Software Engineering, Statistics, Web Design, Web Development, Technology Management, User Experience (UX).

Responsibilities

  • Design the future of products, supporting flexible systems that fuel brands like NBC News, TODAY, and Telemundo.
  • Be involved from strategy to execution for mobile apps, OTT platforms, web experiences, and broadcast tools.
  • Gain exposure to cross-functional teams and learn from product, engineering, and user insights leaders.
  • Explain news through visualizations and data analysis.
  • Build interactives, charts, maps, illustrations, and graphics to tell news in a compelling and thoughtful way.
  • Help find stories that can be told in new and visual ways.
  • Help create charts, maps, and graphics for breaking news stories and reported features.
  • Design, develop, and test NBC News’s flagship Android/iOS applications.
  • Work on native mobile applications across all NBC News brands.
  • Collaborate with developers, product, and project management in shipping out features.
  • Be mentored by senior developers and guided in work, following engineering best practices and writing quality code.
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Design, and Editorial teams to bring NBC News Digital content to life.
  • Be a significant influence on the product roadmap, bringing a technical and strategic perspective.
  • Work alongside fellow inspired developers in a fast-paced environment using technologies like Sass, React.js, and GraphQL to help shape the future of digital news.
