About The Position

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
  • Must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • Must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
  • Submit a one-page resume that outlines your work experience, accomplishments, and your graduation month and year.
  • Submit a cover letter that highlights your passion for NBCUniversal and your top areas of interest.
  • Upload a transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine) that confirms your status as an actively enrolled student in a degree-granting program.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with producers on stories/segments.
  • Work with Production Managers in the control room and green room.

  • Compile different news stories to pitch to producers for segments.
  • Log and transcribe interviews for producers.

  • Pitch story ideas.
  • Daily distribution of rundown/scripts.
  • Plan for morning editorial/pitch meeting.
  • Build slide decks.
  • Log b roll, transcripts and help prepare for edit.
  • Compile research for editorial preparation.
  • Compile research packets.
  • Select and compile footage & stills for on-air elements.
  • Design and manage graphics.
  • Print and deliver scripts.
  • Researching for the Investigative Unit.
  • Filing records requests.
  • Analyzing data.
  • Organizing media.
  • Assisting on local shoots.
  • Assist the Booking Unit team with guest research and upcoming events.
  • Manage lists/pitch packets for the Booking Unit.

  • Monitor news outlets for breaking news.
  • Pitch enterprise news stories.
  • Assist during breaking news by making calls to relevant sources.
  • Listen to radio traffic by EMS or local police.
  • Log press conferences.
  • Check social media postings from witnesses and others.
  • Assist with the logistics of sending NBC News teams to cover the news on location.
  • Assist with the soup-to-nuts production of the ‘Here’s the Scoop’ podcast.
  • Research stories and gather audio for podcasts.
  • Book guests for podcasts.
  • Write scripts/headlines for podcasts.
  • Edit and post podcasts to platforms.
  • Cover a range of stories from breaking news to investigations and feature topics for podcasts.
  • Research and fact check stories for NBC News Now.
  • Assist in editing video and graphics for NBC News Now.
  • Pitch stories for daily and future segments for NBC News Now.
  • Mine and edit video and sound for NBC News Now.
  • Help manage the Shop TODAY social editorial calendars.
  • Write multiple social-first shopping stories a week.
  • Assist in larger projects and initiatives for Shop TODAY.
  • Keep track of social posting and reporting data for Shop TODAY.
  • Build articles in our CMS for Select News.
  • Track editorial workflow for Select News.
  • Help shape new copy flows for Select News.
  • Write new e-commerce content for the site.
  • Update existing e-commerce content.
  • Assist in pre- and post-production for Digital Documentary.
  • Research for Digital Documentary.
  • Gather and catalogue assets from NBC archives for Digital Documentary.
  • Identify and source user generated content for Digital Documentary.
  • Assist in visual investigations and analysis for Digital Documentary.
  • Pitch stories and assist in story development for Digital Documentary.
  • Responsible for marketing promotion plans and alerts for top stories for Digital Platforms.
  • Write different variations of headlines for stories to optimize click-through rate and engagement for Digital Platforms.
  • Pitch, write, and report stories about the world of technology and the internet for Digital Tech.
  • Report and write timely, in-depth original features on a wide range of health topics for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Interview experts about medical studies for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Pitch story ideas for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Identify trends in lifestyle and wellness, including nutrition and women’s and men’s health for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Assist editors across TODAY.com’s news/trending and lifestyle teams.
  • Write for sections including Pop Culture, Health, Food, Parents, Style and TMRW for TODAY.com.
  • Use digital platforms to find user-generated content for Social Newsgathering.
  • Verify social media-sourced content for Social Newsgathering.
  • Interview sources and obtain information for the network's coverage for Social Newsgathering.
  • Help drive social media production and publication to multiple social media accounts for NBC News Social, TODAY Social.
  • Write headlines for social media.
  • Edit video and graphics for social media.
  • Distribute content across social media platforms.
