About The Position

The NBC 5 Chicago News is looking for an intern to work side-by-side with producers and news reporters. The internship will consist of a close working relationship with Telemundo Chicago News.This internship is for someone who relishes finding out things that no one else has ever taken the time to find out. It's a job for someone who can tackle new sources and resources. Good investigative interns are curious and persistent, work hard to uncover new facts and are willing to pivot from story to story as needed.Summer 2026 Internship Program:Applications Close: December 19, 2025, at 11:59 pm CT. Requirements

• Must have strong reading and writing ability in both English and Spanish
• Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2026 through August 2026. May 2026 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2026 Internship Program.
• Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
• Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week
• For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
• NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, analyzing documents, making phone calls to track down stories, researching story tips and ideas
• Talking to viewers and tipsters in Spanish and English
• Helping with numbers and statistics
• Tracking down video and logging tapes
• Assist with web articles in Spanish and English
• Pre-interviewing and field producing
