About The Position

The Nature Adventures Coordinator works closely with the Nature Education Manager to support Nature Adventures (NA) Programs at both the Mission Creek Campus (Natural History Museum) and the Sea Center. This role involves assisting in program development and the day-to-day operations of Nature Adventures camps and classes.

Requirements

  • Proven success as a dynamic educator in environments such as the classroom, museum, camps, or other applicable settings.
  • Experience working and interacting with children, ages 4-12.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service in a flexible, highly demanding arena.
  • Proven experience in writing and designing educational programs, lessons, and/or curriculum.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to step in to support others as needed to ensure successful NA programs.
  • Willingness to travel between sites as needed.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to Museum dress code guidelines, including wearing required uniform items and dressing appropriately for program activities.
  • CPR & First Aid certification (can be obtained through training provided).
  • Must be available to work Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00am – 5:30 pm, some occasional early mornings and evenings as needed. Schedule will vary and range between 15-40 hours per week, depending on camp seasons.

  • Hold a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record, to become an authorized driver of Museum vehicles, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement curriculum for Nature Adventures programs. Facilitate and refine as needed.
  • Together with the Nature Education Manager, collaborates and communicates with the Education Programs staff at the Sea Center to ensure consistency in NA programs at that site.
  • Organize camp supplies and curriculum bins to ensure each class has all the necessary materials to successfully facilitate NA curriculum.
  • Organize and support clean-up and set-up prior to and after camp/class seasons.
  • Serves as a back-up instructor when instructors and substitutes are unavailable.
  • Maintain t-shirt and other supplies inventory.
  • Acts as an alternate point of contact for guardians and visiting camp participants both in-camp (drop off, during program and pick-up) and out of camp (by phone and email), when Nature Education Manager is unavailable.
  • Supports Instructors during NA Extended Day program (as needed) by being available after camp-programming.
  • Provide first aid to NA camp participants and completes necessary incident reports as needed.
  • Participates as an effective, responsible, and energetic team member.
  • Assists Nature Education Manager and Teen Programs staff with supporting Counselors-in-Training/Quasar Teens in day-to-day operations as needed.
  • Collaborates with Sea Center Programs staff as needed to support the instructors' facilitating camps at the Sea Center campus.
  • Supports dynamic interactions with visiting camp parents and camp students.
  • Supports breaks for NA staff as needed.
  • Contributes to a positive guest experience by greeting and addressing any questions when encountering guests as they navigate through the Museum and Sea Center.
  • Supports the Museum’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion for fellow staff, guests, and the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
