About The Position

KC Harvey Environmental is an environmental consulting and field services firm headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, with regional operations offices in Sheridan and Rawlins, Wyoming, Tioga, North Dakota, and Salt Lake City, Utah, along with remote operations throughout the Rocky Mountains and Northern Great Plains. Our team provides a crucial companion for industries with reclamation, restoration, or remediation needs — energy and mining industries and state and federal agencies — by combining a breadth of consulting, engineering, and field service capabilities with a proven depth of environmental expertise. We are currently seeking to hire two Natural Resource Technicians to conduct natural resource field surveys and support project managers and field leads with data analysis and reporting duties as needed. We are looking to fill positions that are permanent full-time and seasonal during the summer field season. The preference is for the person to be based in Sheridan, Wyoming, however other locations may be negotiable. Willingness to travel and work remotely, possibly working solo, is required. The position is open to college students who have an interest in this work and have taken plant identification or wildlife biology classes.

Requirements

  • BS in range management, ecology, biology, or applicable field or working toward such degree.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in natural resource field work preferred, however college students with an applicable field of study that includes botany, biology, range science, or wildlife are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work remotely, possibly solo, in inclement weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel on extended, overnight field mobilizations.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Have experience driving 4x4 pickup trucks, ATVs, and UTVs
  • A commitment to High Standards in Safety
  • Ability to participate in pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience working in the Northern Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Intermountain West, including identification of fauna, flora, ecological assemblages, wetlands, and soils.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys using established protocols for vegetation monitoring, wildlife habitat assessments, wetland delineations, wildlife surveys, and more.
  • Use GPS, digital data forms or app-based forms, and hard copy data forms to collect data.
  • Work with other field staff, under the supervision of field leads or project managers.
  • Assist field lead or project managers with data entry, quality assurance, analysis, and summarization to meet protocol and regulatory requirements.
