We’re seeking an HR Manager to support our operations, with a mix of day‑to‑day HR delivery and strategic involvement. You’ll have an opportunity to partner with operational leaders across diverse operational regions within Black & McDonald; coach supervisors and managers, lead investigations, drive engagement, deliver strategic HR Programs, along with the other HR responsibilities (HR administration, employee questions, letters, onboarding/offboarding etc.).

Requirements

  • 10+ years progressive HR experience; experience in unionized environments considered an asset
  • Strong track record in employee relations and workplace investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to be both strategic and hands‑on, self‑sufficient with HR admin and HRIS.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); HRIS experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication, relationship‑building, prioritization, and change agility in a fast‑paced, matrixed setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in trade environment an asset
  • Post‑secondary education in HR and/or HR certification considered a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and supervisors on performance, coaching, organizational changes, and conflict resolution; lead workplace investigations and facilitate corrective outcomes, coordinating with Corporate People Resources as needed.
  • Guide managers through progressive discipline, termination planning, and documentation in accordance with company policy, collective agreements and applicable legislation, including EEO, unemployment claims, etc.
  • Champion company initiatives to foster company culture and employee engagement
  • Own full‑cycle recruitment for designated roles (intake, postings, screening, interviews, selection and offers); craft compelling postings and ensure a great candidate experience. Expectation would be recruitment for 3-6 jobs at any given time.
  • Support individualized development planning, succession insights, and targeted development for high‑potential talent.
  • Coordinate the annual employee engagement survey, focus groups, action plans, and follow‑through on commitments; enable local engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
  • Facilitate HR updates at regional meetings as needed.
  • Communicate and train on performance management processes (goal setting, feedback, reviews).
  • Own your admin: HRIS transactions and data integrity; letters (offers, changes, discipline), file management, onboarding/offboarding tasks, benefits enrollments/changes/business correspondence, STD/LTD, and liaise with insurance providers
  • Ensure compliance with Employment Standards, Human Rights, and other applicable legislation; prepare for and support audits.
  • Support on more complex leave/absence administration in line with policy and insurer requirements (e.g., STD/LTD coordination).
