About The Position

The Multimedia and Technology Manager, in cooperation with the Studio Engineer, is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a purpose-built Podcast Studio (producing daily video and audio podcasts). Additionally, the Multimedia and Technology Manager will provide  expert support of Guardian US audio/video, visuals, and podcast production staff. The Multimedia and Technology Manager will also own support for all Guardian US collaboration systems including a bespoke Town Hall solution and will be accountable for ensuring that these remain operational at all times, particularly for all-hands or special events. Incumbent must ensure that all technologies under their remit are technically reliable, operationally efficient, and ready to support fast-paced editorial and creative teams working across video, audio, and digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with professional audio and/or video studios in a broadcast, podcast, or digital media environment.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of: Audio recording and mixing Video production and camera systems Lighting for studio environments
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills under time pressure.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting multiple studios or high-volume production schedules.
  • Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced editorial environment.
  • Knowledge of live streaming or remote recording workflows.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, captioning, or audio quality standards.
  • Expert knowledge of macOS/iOS and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with online multimedia tools, including Iconik and Lucidlink.
  • Experience with Cisco Webex Control Hub, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the multimedia, AV, and video conferencing systems,  ensuring they are fully functional and production-ready at all times.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for multimedia, audio, video, and visuals  users, resolving technical or operational issues quickly and calmly. Escalate issues, where required to the Guardian US  IT Manager or IT Director.
  • Maintain consistent standards across all technologies under their sphere of management.
  • Manage, configure and maintain all studio equipment, including: Cameras and lenses Lighting rigs and control systems Microphones and audio interfaces
  • Recording, editing, encoding and playback systems
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot audio, video, and lighting issues in live or recorded sessions.
  • Work with other internal teams, or external suppliers on repairs, upgrades, and system integrations.
  • Ensure studio systems are optimized for both video and audio podcast production.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for recordings, including studio setup, precise mic/camera placement, and operating audio/video mixing desks with effects and level balancing.
  • Guide presenters/teams on audio/video best practices. Enhance production workflows, develop standard templates, and update technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of all studio equipment, consumables, and field recording kits in both audio and video.
  • Support planning and management of equipment lifecycle, including upgrades and preventative maintenance.
  • Liaise closely with editorial, production, and technical teams to meet evolving content requirements.
  • Provide training on studio workflows and equipment operation to producers, presenters, and freelance staff.
  • Promote knowledge sharing to ensure consistent, high-quality production standards across all studio facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Multimedia team to ensure seamless operation and support for all Multimedia offerings, including studios.
  • Report performance metrics directly to the line manager.
  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Multimedia Support/Studio Engineers across global locations (currently UK and Australia) to ensure consistent operational excellence and adherence to technology standards in all physical studio sites (UK, Australia, USA).
