About The Position

The Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) refers to a framework of support at all levels of reading instruction that is systematically in place to proactively help all students succeed. The MTSS Lead Interventionist will drive educator and student success by overseeing the MTSS process. The primary focus of this role is to analyze student performance data in ELA for students with MTSS processes, and support teachers with intervention planning and implementation. Staff hired for this role will coach and develop educators on MTSS analysis, and implementation of interventions to address student needs. They will teach, co-teach, support in a supplemental classroom, or provide targeted student interventions 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland professional certificate/license in English 7-12 or Middle School English/Language Arts 4-9, with Reading Teacher or Reading specialist endorsement preferred.
  • Applicants working on National Board Certification in Literacy or in a Master’s program for Reading may also qualify.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as an effective classroom teacher as demonstrated by student proficiency and growth data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Experience with Maryland Common Core Readiness Standards, the Science of Reading, and MCAP Assessments.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed Science of Reading training is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the MTSS framework and experience in its application is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions.
  • Monitor student progress through data collection and analysis.
  • Provide ongoing professional development for teachers.
  • Develop and adapt intervention strategies.
  • Using student data, the MTSS Lead will identify strengths and gaps in Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports and draft a tailored MTSS implementation plan that is school specific.
  • Guide teachers in reviewing student data, selecting appropriate interventions, tracking intervention effectiveness, and adjusting strategies.
  • Ensure interventions align with district-approved resources and staff participate in required training on tiered intervention supports.
  • Facilitate professional learning, data analysis, and interventions.
  • Lead small-group student interventions or support individual student interventions.
  • Support teachers in implementing targeted interventions based on student progress monitoring and MTSS guidelines.
  • Schedule and facilitate collaborative time with teachers to review student progress, co-plan interventions, and refine instructional practices.
  • Stay informed on current educational research and trends and participate in professional development and trainings.
  • Partner with district secondary ELA/English supervisor, administrators and teacher leaders to align professional learning with district priorities and school needs.
