About The Position

We are looking for an individual with strong verbal and written communication skills who is skilled in public speaking and can perform in person and online training. You should understand information technology principles and practices, be familiar with library administration, cataloging and circulation procedures and standards, and know how to configure and resolve problems in an integrated library system (ILS). The Montana State Library (MSL) i s seeking applications for a Montana Shared Catalog Trainer. This is a full-time, permanent position that is eligible for all applicable state benefits and retirement. The position is located in Helena and is eligible for remote work within the State of Montana. MSL is an agency of the Montana state government. We employ a staff of 50 professionals who are dedicated to providing state-wide library information and support, state government information, natural resources information, and geographic information for all Montanans. We support the development and excellence of Montana's public libraries and reading materials for individuals with visual or physical disabilities. We provide open, free, and transparent data to support the state's land, water, and natural resources programs. Our culture is based on values of service to our users, transparency, and trust. The State Library is a modern, 21st century library. Montana Shared Catalog Trainer You will be the subject matter expert that designs materials and curriculum for the Montana Shared Catalog (MSC) Training Program. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and presenting training materials online and onsite for MSC member library staff.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in public speaking
  • Ability to perform in person and online training
  • Understanding of information technology principles and practices
  • Familiarity with library administration, cataloging and circulation procedures and standards
  • Knowledge of how to configure and resolve problems in an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or information technology and 2 years of experience working as a trainer and help desk support. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead training efforts by scheduling, communicating, organizing materials, and providing training on all facets of the integrated library system.
  • Create and update training resources.
  • Survey and assess provided training.
  • Provide technical support and assistance for member libraries.
  • Respond to first level help desk tickets to resolve user access issues.
  • Assist other MSC staff with developing solutions for system conflicts.
