As a Monitor Technician, you will be part of a team in charge of all patients requiring cardiac monitoring within the facility. You will watch between 40 and 60 patients' cardiac rhythms for abnormalities and alarms, and be responsible for escalating changes and recognizing dangerous rhythms and notifying the healthcare team. This position is for a Full Time Day Shift, 7a to 7:30p, and will include weekends and holidays on a rotation. Banner Del E. With 391 licensed beds, the hospital provides a wide range of services, including acute medical and surgical services as well as intensive care, emergency and urgent care, inpatient/outpatient surgery, cardiac catheterization, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, pulmonary, obstetrics and gynecology, outpatient diagnostic services, and adult behavioral services. This position is responsible for continuous observation of patients’ monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors, and for reporting pertinent changes and abnormalities to the appropriate clinical staff. This position is also responsible for maintaining logs of activity and changes or behaviors in accordance with facility standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification may be required in certain departments.
  • Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.
  • Depending on department assignment, completion of unit approved basic electrocardiogram -OR- electroencephalographic interpretation course or on the job training – and - a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG -OR- EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias - OR - epileptiform activity.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Requires effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients. Must be aware of pertinent medical history, medications and code status for each of their assigned patients. Alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.
  • Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards. Documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.
  • Provides information and summaries to physicians and staff.
  • Monitors and assists in the maintenance of monitoring equipment.
  • May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.
  • Works under general supervision. Interacts with all levels of staff within the facility, physicians, patients, families and external contacts and vendors.
