About The Position

Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. (MES) is seeking a full-time Mobile Service Technician. This Mobile Service Technician will be responsible for: Diagnose, maintain and repair air brake systems including brakes, drums, calipers, electronics, etc. Diagnose, maintain and repair components of the coolant system. Diagnose and repair the HVAC system. Diagnose and repair chassis and body-builder electrical system components including emergency lighting, alternator and charging system, etc. Diagnose, maintain and repair fire pump systems and components. Diagnose, maintain and repair chassis and body components. Window regulators, door latches and handles, etc. Perform preventive maintenance on the engine, transmission, fire pump, chassis and other upfit components. Diagnose engine fault codes and follow through with repair. Perform repair work on fire trucks and other emergency apparatus by traveling to assigned site locations or in shop. Troubleshoot problems specializing in emergency equipment. Territory: The counties within Northern and Central Virginia (including the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Neck).

Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel within an assigned territory.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must assume responsibility for high quality repair process.
  • Must have the ability to work independently or with less supervision
  • Should have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to manage service calls
  • Ability to utilize a computer / tablet for online repair order submission / diagnostics
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clean driving record with or able to obtain a CDL driver license within the first year of employment.
  • Knowledge of repair principles and procedures in all areas of the Heavy Truck Repair Industry
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to stand and walk over 50% of work time.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Willingness to travel: 100%
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • REAL-ID is required to work in Federal sites (maybe add Real ID required, since there may be air travel on occasion.)

  • Automotive HVAC is a plus
  • 12V automotive electrical is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the service and repair of all fire apparatus equipment. From simple PM work and brakes to pump repairs and testing
  • Testing and repairing fire apparatus and equipment by traveling to the location of the customer.
  • Provide troubleshooting and performing installation of equipment.
  • Attending to the needs of the customer whenever required.
  • Provide confirmation that equipment is functional.
  • Provide telephone support to the customer in order to perform troubleshooting.
  • Follow through to ensure equipment is in proper working condition after performing troubleshooting.
