The NHMLAC is seeking a Museum Educator 1 for our Education & Programs department. The Museum Educator 1 is responsible for the facilitation and implementation of the Mobile Museums Program which includes the Archaeology Experience and Ocean Experience offsite, related on-site school visit programs, and community events throughout Los Angeles County.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science, anthropology or related field preferred.
  • Position requires two years of informal teacher experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication with both children and adults from a diverse set of backgrounds.
  • Excellent listening and observation skills.
  • Ability to work offsite, independently as well as collaboratively with a team and be expected to manage time efficiently.
  • A valid California Driver License or the ability to utilize a reliable, alternative method of transportation needed to carry out job related essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates outreach programs through the Mobile Museum Program which includes operation of the Archaeology Experience, Ocean Experience, Mobile Museum Tar Pits, and related on-site school visit programs at NHM. Manages off-site operations for the program including setting up and striking down processes on the Mobiles each day. Reports maintenance issues to appropriate staff.
  • Serves as liaison to school administrators, teachers, and students when offsite as a representative of the museum.
  • Facilitates different off-site programs as needed while at schools such as Open houses, walkthroughs, and after school programming.
  • Assists with the evaluation of the Mobile Museum Program and other outreach endeavors. Maintains program statistics and helps the manager to prepare evaluation reports.
  • Helps to maintain a daily log of mobile and education operations to assist in program maintenance.
  • Assists in the development and updating of program curriculum for all outreach instruction as requested.
