About The Position

The National Building Museum inspires curiosity about the world we design and build. We are a private, nonprofit institution that transforms understanding of the history and impact of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture and design. The National Building Museum educates, entertains, and engages people about the built environment and challenges them to advocate for a sustainable and equitable future. Position Summary The Museum Educators (Part Time) will be part of the National Building Museum’s vision to offer curriculum, programs and experiences that educate and inspire future generations of building industry professionals and community leaders. These programs include school field trips, Girl Scout programs, birthday parties, Summer Camp, and festivals. Under the direction of the Manager, Youth & Community Programs, Museum Educators are energetic, collaborative, and extremely organized individuals who facilitates an array of education programs. Schedule The Museum Educator will work 16 hours maximum per week to include weekend hours. We are seeking two Museum Educators, each will work one of these schedules: Thursday, Friday: 9:00 – 3:30, Saturday: 4 hours (shift times vary depending on program needs). Please note that this position’s schedule would shift to full time hours (M-F) in Summer of 2026 for a period of 6-8 weeks to staff Summer Camp. If the applicant is unable to work full time in the summer, they will be placed on leave for the summer and, if in good standing, have the option to return in the fall.

Requirements

  • Previous experience facilitating activities for children is required (experience in program delivery within a museum or gallery setting preferred).
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with groups in a public setting while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and think creatively.
  • Must pass background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Education, History, Architectural Studies, Museum Studies, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and delivers on-site youth engagement and education programs, including Summer Camp.
  • Uses knowledge of the principles, and practices pertaining to museum education and interpretive practices, in hands-on, inquiry-driven, and mission-driven learning experiences.
  • Presents high-quality education and engagement programming and effectively manages instructional materials, including pre- and post- visit as needed.
  • Maintain educational spaces and supply inventory.
  • Effectively applies organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Attend all training and learn new lesson content as needed.
  • Be able to answer visitors’ questions about the museum’s content, history and calendar while on the floor at the museum.
