About The Position

Appalachian Community Services is seeking a Mobile Crisis Dispatcher to be the first point of contact for individuals in crisis, and to coordinate rapid response efforts to ensure timely and effective support. As a Mobile Crisis Dispatcher, your primary responsibility will be to receive, assess, and prioritize emergency calls, dispatch appropriate crisis intervention staff, provide real-time support to callers, welcoming and registering individuals to the behavioral health urgent care, as well as, providing assistance to the mobile crisis and behavioral health urgent care staff. Additionally, the Dispatcher will complete insurance verifications, enrollments, and monitor the ongoing status of each crisis case. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email and fax.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in emergency dispatch, crisis intervention, insurance verification, or a related field is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls, assess crisis situations, and provide a calm, supportive presence for individuals in distress
  • Coordinate and dispatch mobile crisis response teams, ensuring timely and effective intervention
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals, law enforcement, and other emergency services to support comprehensive crisis management
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including call details, outcomes, and insurance verification
  • Provide follow-up support and monitor ongoing cases to ensure quality care and safety post-crisis
