About The Position

This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS), a group within Mission Technologies. Mission Technologies' Global Security (GS) group focuses on live, virtual, constructive (LVC) solutions, fleet sustainment, nuclear and environmental services, and business in Australia. HII, as a trusted partner to military customers, designs, develops, and operates the largest LVC enterprise to prepare warfighters for cross-domain battle, emphasizing full coordination for mission readiness. For over 40 years, HII has been entrusted by the U.S. Navy to maintain and modernize its fleet, adopting a holistic approach to life-cycle maritime defense systems. HII also supports the Department of Energy's national security mission by managing and operating sites and cleaning up legacy waste, addressing complex nuclear and environmental challenges. Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a qualified individual for the role of a Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Engineering Technical Lead within their Global Security Group. This position involves supporting Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVCt) training events, the Navy Training Baseline (NTB), and the NCTE. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the planning and execution of LVCt events. The role is based at NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex and requires periodic local travel to other customer sites in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia. The position also requires flexibility, as duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field or 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Must be familiar with Linux (command line) and Windows operating systems.
  • Must have technical leadership ability. During LVCt event execution, must be able to address technical issues by understanding which engineering domain problems belong to and then engage engineers from the appropriate domains to resolve issues.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable communicating at various levels of the organization. This may involve lower level technical collaboration on issues with assigned engineers or high level explanation of issues and/or status updates with senior leadership.
  • Must be familiar with MS Office.
  • Must have a current CompTIA Security + certification.
  • Must currently hold and be able to maintain a US Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of distributed simulation protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, architectures, and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP
  • Experience with MS Visio software to produce technical architecture drawings
  • Knowledge of Navy C4I tactical systems such as Link 16 and GCCS
  • Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Engineering Technical Lead for NCTE training events. In this role, the technical lead collaborates with the operational event lead for the training event technical requirements and collaborates with the operations and engineering departments to ensure these event requirements are met.
  • Collaborates with operations and engineering leads to build integrated project teams (IPTs) and manning plans to support NCTE training events.
  • Collaborates with IPTs to design architectures that support specific training event requirements and documents these architectures using established diagram standards - e.g. Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) SV-1 and SV-2 – using tools such as Microsoft Visio.
  • Monitors the health and status of training events during execution and directs activities of the integrated project team to address any technical issues.
  • Troubleshoots LVCt system related issues and ensures training event system interfaces are configured in accordance with documented interface standards.
