About The Position

We are seeking passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for two (2) Mineral Resources Inspector 3 positions within the Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, headquartered at the Zaleski State Forest Office in Vinton County. Servicing Counties: Athens, Fairfield, Hocking, Perry, Pickaway, Ross, & Vinton What you will do… As Senior Inspector, investigates Orphan Well complaints & completes referrals; interviews parties & witnesses; gathers records & documentation (e.g., photos, drilling data, cement records, electric logs, hydrogen sulfide [H2S]) Conducts on-site meetings with operators &/or engineers, contractors, & consultants to explain permit conditions; makes policy & work recommendations Drafts well descriptions & plugging plans for development of the Projects Scope of Work Witnesses & monitors all phases of orphan & idle well projects such as approving plugging methods & plugging oversight, drafts field orders & change orders for the orphan well program; tracks quantities Investigates & evaluates contamination & pollution of soil or water resources & inspection & approval of restoration of disturbed land area Acts as a liaison with other local, county, state, & federal officials This position requires travel to field sites to conduct inspections & to be available 24 hours/7 days per week to respond to calls &/or site inspections Starting hourly pay of $30.55/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 7.5 years of service, with an end salary of $44.74/hr. There may also be cost of living adjustments (COLA) applied. Longevity pay supplements begin after five (5) years of state service. UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires travel; conducts field inspections in inclement weather, on rough terrain & in heavy vegetation while carrying testing equipment weighing up to 20 lbs; exposed to loud noises, dirt, & mud at mine/well sites; may be exposed to toxic substances, blasting & potentially dangerous conditions at mine/well sites; spends high percentage of time alone in automobile in remote areas; on call 24 hrs, 7 days per week; works around heavy equipment. Completion of undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology; chemistry; hydrology; biology; agronomy) AND 24 mos. exp. in natural resources with specialization in assigned area (e.g., coal surface mining, mineral surface mining & oil & gas & solution mining) AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or communications AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer AND must be able to provide own transportation; valid driver's license. Or 24 mos. exp. as Mineral Resources Inspector 2, 22932 in assigned area; must be able to provide own transportation; valid driver's license. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Note: Any new hire accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment per Section 123:1-76-09 of Ohio Administrative Code.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology; chemistry; hydrology; biology; agronomy)
  • 24 mos. exp. in natural resources with specialization in assigned area (e.g., coal surface mining, mineral surface mining & oil & gas & solution mining)
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or communications
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer
  • Must be able to provide own transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • 24 mos. exp. as Mineral Resources Inspector 2, 22932 in assigned area
  • Must be able to provide own transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
