About The Position

The Mine Surveyor plays a critical role in supporting daily mining operations by collecting, processing, and managing high-accuracy spatial data used for pit development, ore control, dump advancement, leach pad monitoring, and infrastructure projects. This position operates within a high-tonnage open pit copper mine. The Mine Surveyor Technician works independently in both field and office environments to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of data used by Engineering, Geology, Operations, and Environmental teams. UAV and LiDAR technologies are a core part of this role.

Requirements

  • Technical, Associate, or university degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Mine Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent job experience
  • +1 years of experience in mine or construction surveying, preferably in open pit mining
  • Proficiency with total stations, GNSS systems, UAV/drones, and LiDAR technology
  • Experience with point cloud processing, photogrammetry, and surface modeling
  • Skilled in data processing software such as Pix4D, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with Hexagon MinePlan 3D and integration of survey data into mine planning workflows
  • Physically able for fieldwork in rugged terrain and variable conditions

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a certified drone (UAV) pilot, responsible for flight planning, aerial data acquisition, ground control setup, post-processing, and compliance with safety and legal protocols.
  • Use UAV drones and mobile LiDAR systems to acquire detailed spatial data for pit pickups, blast pattern layout, ore control boundaries, dump and leach pad monitoring, and mine infrastructure development.
  • Using a Trimble GPS system, Stake and mark blast patterns, dig polygons, grade boundaries, and engineering features in coordination with Mine Geology, Drill & Blast, and Mine Operations.
  • Process and validate survey data using Maptek PointStudio, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD LT, and support integration into Hexagon MinePlan 3D.
  • Maintain and update survey control networks, coordinate systems, and surface models across the mining footprint; assist with as-built layouts for roads, ponds, utilities, and other infrastructure.
  • Create, update, and maintain a layered facilities map of the property
