Overall Job Purpose: Monitor underground and surface Atmosphere Monitoring System (AMS), and communication systems. The primary duties and responsibilities of an AMS operator are extremely important to the health and safety of miners working underground. Requirements

  • A thorough understanding and a working knowledge of these subjects is essential to properly perform the duties of an AMS operator.
  • In the event of a mine emergency, the sole responsibility of the AMS operator is to respond to the emergency.
  • They must be able to think clearly and react under stress in an emergency situation.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Computer skills
  • Good communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Excel experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with underground mining systems
  • Basic atmospheric monitoring system requirements
  • The mine emergency evacuation and firefighting program of instruction
  • Knowledgeable in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • Understand the mine ventilation and roof control systems
  • Appropriate response to alert and alarm signals, and malfunctions
  • Use of mine communication systems (including emergency notification procedures)
  • AMS recordkeeping requirements
  • Check-in/Check-out system
  • Downloading and maintaining multi-gas detectors
  • Maintain cap lamps
  • Requires underground training once every six months
  • Able to work shift work, weekends and overtime if necessary
  • Support the Behavior Based Safety program
