About The Position

The Mine Intern, reporting directly to the Engineering Supervisor, will assist the Itafos Conda mine team with a broad array of duties across all mining functional areas (e.g. safety, environmental, production, exploration, reclamation) with an emphasis on tasks that support their chosen field of study.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mine/Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental or other mine-related field at an accredited College or University.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of school or relative work experience.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Possess a high level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in high-pressure / time-sensitive situations and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Possess analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United State of America.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background screen, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, and a pre-placement fitness for duty evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with mine team to identify operational improvements and be able to able to effectively communicate information to others.
  • Analyze, interpret and communicate environmental and safety issues/information.
  • Audit mining operations to look for efficiency improvements.
  • Interact & maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of personnel.
  • Present ideas through written and/or verbal presentation.
  • Learn and utilize survey equipment to assist with quantity claiming and surveying operations.
  • Assist in inspections, audits and record keeping associated with permits, plans and MSHA requirements.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of engineering plans and environmental control features.
  • Actively participate in in the mine safety program (including involvement in meetings, investigations, and documentation).
