About The Position

A millwork machine operator is responsible for operating and maintaining machinery used to produce millwork products, such as doors, windows, cabinets, and architectural woodwork. They play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and efficient machining of wood or wood composite materials to meet design specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in operating and controlling millwork machinery, including saws, routers, planers, molders, or CNC machines.
  • Understanding of millwork materials, woodworking techniques, and machining processes. Knowledge of different types of wood, wood composite materials, and their characteristics is beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or specifications related to millwork products. Understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements is important.
  • Skill in setting up millwork machines, including tooling changes, material positioning, and adjustments to feed rates, cutting depths, or other parameters.
  • Ability to work with precision and maintain attention to detail to achieve accurate and high-quality machining results.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills to identify and address common machinery issues. Knowledge of routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and blade or cutter replacement, is valuable.
  • Strong adherence to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and using personal protective equipment (PPE) properly is essential.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and precision.
  • Good problem-solving skills to identify and address machining issues, make adjustments, and troubleshoot common problems that may arise during machine operation.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments. The ability to work well in a team environment is important for a smooth workflow.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage production schedules, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Proper PPE to be worn on job sites, including work-appropriate long pants and steel toe/composite toe shoes or boots.
  • Manual dexterity
  • Hand-Eye coordination

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a millwork machine operator or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of millwork machinery, including their setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with different types of millwork materials and their characteristics.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control millwork machinery, such as saws, routers, planers, molders, or CNC machines, to perform various machining operations on wood or wood composite materials.
  • Set up machines before production runs, including tooling changes, material positioning, and adjustments to feed rates, cutting depths, or other parameters based on the required specifications.
  • Load and unload raw materials onto the machine, ensuring proper alignment and secure positioning for machining operations. Move finished products to designated areas or production lines.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure they run smoothly and adjust as needed to maintain optimal production output, quality, and efficiency. Monitor material flow, feeding mechanisms, and cutting accuracy.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while operating millwork machinery, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance or repair activities.
  • Record and maintain accurate production data, such as machine settings, output quantities, downtime, and any other relevant information in logs or computer systems. Complete production reports or forms as required.
