Drafter role involves collaborating with project and shop coordinators to develop detailed millwork design plans that balance aesthetics and functionality. Responsibilities include producing accurate shop drawings, generating G-Code for CNC machines, and managing the engineering, fabrication, and installation processes. The position requires compiling material take-offs, selecting appropriate materials, maintaining precision in all documentation, and staying current with industry trends and technologies. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for coordinating with team members, updating drawings based on site visits, and resolving technical issues. The role also includes maintaining thorough project documentation and supporting production workflow in partnership with the shop foreman. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Wood Technology, Mechanical Engineer, or related field.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in architectural millwork, custom wood manufacturing, or a similar industry.
  • Must be able to work effectively with vendors, corporate staff and ownership and possess strong relationship development/management skills.
  • Conflict management/resolution and negotiation/persuasion skills critical.
  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing.
  • Possess strong written and verbal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Look for problems that could impede progress and take responsibility for solving them.
  • Must demonstrate skills and be able to work as a team and cooperate with the staff and production personnel.
  • Ability to use design software, office equipment, and knowledge of production equipment.
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Possess familiarity with various construction delivery methods and budget terms.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a solution finder when project challenges occur.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cabinet Vision, AutoCAD, and/or Mozaik.
  • Knowledge of AWI Quality and Design Standards a plus
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Project and Shop Coordinator to understand project requirements.
  • Develop detailed millwork design plans, considering both aesthetic and functional aspects.
  • Understanding of the means and methods for the engineering, fabrication, finishing and installation of architectural woodwork, casework, and millwork.
  • Complete all shop drawings and engineering.
  • Generate G-Code for CNC machines.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the scope and sequencing of assigned projects.
  • Compile material take-ffs for ordering and shop production.
  • Reviews all work prior to release for submittals and for production.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials for millwork projects, considering factors such as durability, cost, and aesthetic appeal.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new materials, and emerging technologies in millwork to continuously improve processes and stay competitive in the market.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail to guarantee the precision of all cut-lists and millwork elements.
  • Perform site visits when needed.
  • Communicate with Project Coordinators and team to resolve technical matters.
  • Stays up to date with field conditions and updates drawings for fabrication accordingly.
  • Collaborate closely with the shop foreman to coordinate and streamline the production workflow, communicating cut-lists and punch-lists effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently solve complex millwork-related challenges and make informed decisions to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of millwork projects, including design plans, material specifications, and progress reports.
  • Performs other duties as required.
