About The Position

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking Milieu Therapists (MTs) for its Integrated Health & Aging Program (IHAP). IHAP is one of the largest inpatient geriatric mental health units in the country, dedicated to supporting older adults facing psychiatric challenges. The multidisciplinary team addresses chronic health conditions and basic activities of daily living alongside psychiatric treatment, providing comprehensive, person-centered care. This role offers an opportunity to make a difference daily, with no prior experience required as training, tools, and support will be provided. The hospital is hiring for both full-time and part-time positions, with schedules including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet patient needs. The starting pay is $20.00, with adjustments based on experience. The position is focused on fostering healing and transforming lives through life-changing medicine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Service field such as Social Work, Psychology or Counseling from an accredited college or University
  • Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in Human Services
  • Must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs
  • TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) - CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Valid/current driver’s license for certain units

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant group/individuals experience with therapeutic and leisure-oriented activities is strongly preferred
