About The Position

Located in South Central Virginia, The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Hughes Center also provides private, community-based educational services. We provide both individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. We utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment (and educational) interventions with the intent to increase each youth's level of functional independence. Our team also works diligently to address or manage medical conditions and challenging behaviors that are often associated with individuals who are diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders. We challenge our residents to adapt to and apply learned skills within new environments and situations, and to maintain functional use of these skills when they return to their homes or other community-based settings. We are currently looking for an attentive, knowledgeable, flexible, dependable, and self-motivated individual to fulfill the role of Milieu Manager at our Danville RTC location. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package and generous paid time off. The Milieu Manager will provide leadership and supervision to direct care staff, in order to ensure direct patient care duties are being performed in a residential behavioral health setting. The selected candidate will work in association with the Program Director and interdisciplinary team to implement programming and provide ongoing training to create and maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu. The Milieu Manager ensures patient engagement ensuring the program schedule is being followed, assignment of unit tasks, and ensuring facility policies are enforced. In collaboration with Program Coordinators/and or RN and AOC ensure all incidents are reported reviewed, debriefed and 24hour report is completed and sent to all teams.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Psychology or a Human Services field of study, required
  • Hold a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience working in a residential facility for children, of which one year must be supervisory; Five years of experience working with children preferred.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds,
  • Effectively use the full range of body motion - sit, bend, kneel or stand for more than an hour if needed.
  • Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training,
  • Effectively perform facility approved First Aid and CPR techniques
  • Able to understand and demonstrate therapeutic boundaries
  • Willing to be a team player and offer valuable insight to the team
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and via written documentation
  • Able to rotate shifts and units as necessary
  • A pre-hire drug screen, pre-hire background checks, and education verification are required of all new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Have a strong working knowledge of all MHT job functions and duties
  • Assist in supervising and scheduling staff
  • Facilitate company- and facility-required trainings to staff as required by licensing and accreditation standards
  • Models' professional behavior and standards of care to staff as a teacher, trainer, and coach when on the unit(s) or when in ratio.
  • Provides ongoing feedback and coaching to MHTs and Lead Technicians to ensure consistent application of policy, procedure, and unit schedules.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new unit staff to build rapport and engagement, reinforcing the importance to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Responsible to observe competence as it relates to new hires during the onboarding process.
  • Monitors the milieu to ensure safety of patients and staff; will act as a first responder in crisis situations
  • Assist with patient groups and activities as needed and required.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings as needed to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and engaging environment.
  • Documents and communicates unusual or erratic changes in patients' behaviors and/or condition.
  • Supports the patient discharge process and assigns duties to milieu staff, as necessary.
  • Conducts MHT interviews and makes recommendations for hire as necessary
