The school is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Middle School History and Speech and Debate Teacher to join its dynamic and growing middle school community. As a history teacher, the role involves bringing intellectual curiosity, depth, and rigor to lessons, helping students develop critical thinking skills and a strong foundation in historical inquiry. The teaching will prepare students for high school and beyond, fostering a deep appreciation for history’s relevance to the modern world. Educators who stay informed on current world events and thoughtfully integrate relevant themes into lessons to deepen student engagement are valued. The teacher will collaborate intentionally with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning experiences that broaden students' perspectives. In the classroom, the teacher will cultivate an environment that encourages students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and develop historical perspectives that foster empathy and global awareness. By engaging students through discussions, primary source analysis, and thought-provoking projects, the teacher will inspire a lifelong appreciation for history. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a field of study in or related to History
  • A minimum of two years of teaching and training experience at the middle, high school or college level.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and experience teaching the craft of writing and research within the discipline
  • A readiness to explore innovative teaching strategies and formats. Capability to implement differentiated learning and instruction as needed.
  • Eager to foster supportive relationships with students in and out of the classroom.
  • A commitment to actively and collaboratively engage with colleagues in curriculum development and alignment.
  • A commitment to continuous professional growth and an enthusiasm for lifelong learning
  • An ability to create and promote an inclusive learning environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and expertly teach courses that challenge students, support diversity, and demonstrate a strong commitment to their success with the highest standards for each individual.
  • Teach the Speech and Debate elective course
  • Express enthusiasm for intellectual exploration and exemplify lifelong learning by designing instruction that highlights critical thinking and real-world problem-solving.
  • Teach advanced material beyond grade standards in engaging and interactive ways that convey your enthusiasm for the subject and educate students to an internationally competitive standard.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to create a community of intelligent, talented, and creative individuals who are passionate about working in a professional and academic environment.
  • Support the welfare of all students via proactive and restorative classroom practices.
  • Keep parents updated on their children's learning and actively communicate with them.
  • Show interest and capacity to advise students, as each teacher is required to lead student activities, act as a club advisor or coach, and contribute beyond the classroom to enhance school programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion of people and programs.
  • Actively participate in various aspects of the student experience and school operations, such as chaperoning a grade-level field trip, supporting student events, serving on committees, and creating new school programs.
