About The Position

Essential Functions: Instruct middle school program participants in academic and/or recreational activities during six-week summer program. The ideal candidates are passionate about youth development and can create an inclusive, structured, and energetic learning environment aligned with STEP’s mission. The Strive Toward Excellence Program (STEP) is looking for: Middle School Language Arts/English and Art instructors. Two positions are available. Position Summaries Art Instructor The STEP Program is seeking a creative and student-centered Middle School Art Instructor to lead an engaging summer enrichment course for students in grades 7–8. This part-time, temporary role focuses on fostering creativity, self-expression, and confidence while supporting broader academic and social-emotional development. Language Arts/English Instructor The STEP Program is seeking a dynamic and engaging Middle School Language Arts/English Instructor to deliver a high-quality summer enrichment course for students in grades 7–8. This part-time, temporary position focuses on delivering engaging, high-quality literacy instruction that strengthens students' reading, writing, and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (for respective positions English, Education, Art, Art Education, or related fields)
  • Language Arts/English Instructor Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Teaching certification (preferred)
  • Experience working with middle school students (Grades 7–8)
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and student success
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage diverse learners
  • Art Instructor Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, or a related field
  • Experience working with middle school-aged students (teaching, camps, or youth programs)
  • Demonstrated background in visual arts
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to engage diverse learners in an inclusive environment
  • Experience in summer enrichment or college access programs
  • Experience working with first-generation or underserved student populations
  • Ability to incorporate culturally relevant and diverse artistic perspectives

Nice To Haves

  • Language Arts/English Instructor Master’s preferred
  • Teaching certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers.
