WHAT YOU’LL DO As a member of our Middle School Academy, staff have the opportunity to shape students during one of the most pivotal stages of their academic and personal development, building the skills, confidence, and critical thinking they need to thrive in high school and beyond. As the Middle School Lead Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in ensuring all students, particularly those with specialized learning needs, receive the instruction, support, and advocacy they deserve to thrive. In this role, you will provide: Special Education Instructional & Leadership Support Partner with the Special Education Vice Principal to analyze teacher and student data, identifying trends and providing targeted coaching and support in areas of greatest need Support the maintenance of 100% compliance by assisting with meeting scheduling, documentation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders Provide clear, actionable feedback on IEPs and progress reports to ensure high-quality, compliant, and student-centered documentation Support professional development for special education teachers on all aspects of the IEP process, building clarity, consistency, and strong instructional alignment Strengthen Classroom Systems & Grow as a Leader Provide data-driven individual and small group instruction in reading and math, aligned to student needs and IEP goals Use a range of assessment data (e.g., Achievement Network, DIBELS, iReady) to group students, plan instruction, and monitor progress Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement targeted growth plans that accelerate student achievement Build strong, consistent relationships with students to create a foundation for both academic success and social-emotional growth Collaboration with Staff, Students, and Families Partner with grade-level teams, interventionists, and special education staff to ensure students receive coherent and aligned support across classrooms. Participate in student support meetings and instructional problem-solving routines grounded in evidence and urgency. Build strong relationships with students and contribute to an inclusive, structured environment where students feel affirmed and challenged. Communicate consistently with families, providing transparency into progress, needs, and instructional priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (in any field); Majors or minors in Special Education are preferred
  • Teacher Certification (lapsed certifications are okay) or enrollment in an alternative certification program (e.g., Teach For America, Capital Teaching Residency, City Teaching Alliance, etc.)
  • Instructional Readiness: You deliver instruction that accelerates learning and contributes to strong team outcomes.
  • Achievement Orientation: You believe all students can meet grade-level expectations, set ambitious goals, use data to adjust instruction, and persist until students succeed.
