About The Position

The Michigan Education Policy Fellowship (MEPF), The Policy Leader Cohort is a 2-year leadership opportunity for current or previous educators and school leaders. During the second year, fellows are matched with organizations from September through June to provide fellows additional experience to become system level leaders in the field of policy, advocacy, and/or organizing while creating a unique learning space for the cohort to learn, reflect, and build collective power together. During the secondary year, fellows are expected to commit an average of 10-15 hours per week (up to 10 hours with the partner organization, up to 5 hours with Teach for America Detroit) and are compensated for their time.

Requirements

  • At least four years of professional experience, including experience as a PK-12 teacher or school leader
  • Receives recommendation from supervisor
  • All educators should be prepared to enter certification information when completing their application. For Michigan educators, please use the MOECS educator look-up necessary information (https://mdoe.state.mi.us/moecs/publiccredentialsearch.aspx). For educators applying who are certified outside of Michigan, please provide a PDF copy of your current licensure. This can be a screenshot from the state licensing website

Benefits

  • At least $35,000 in financial awards provided over 3 years (for eligible fellows in TeachMichigan partner districts)
  • Year 1: $5,000 Signing Bonus, $5,000 Completion Bonus
  • Year 2: $10,000 Completion Bonus

  • ~$15,000 salary ($25/hour for an average of 10-15 hours/week for 10 months)
  • Group and/or individual coaching and mentorship
  • Cohort workshops at least 4x per year
  • Experiential Learning Visits inside and outside of Michigan
